Castaway Island Fiji is a 4 star privately owned resort located on 174 acres in the Mamanuca Islands. It is easily accessible by a 50 minute boat trip from Denarau Island or a short 10 minute ride by seaplane or helicopter from Nadi airport. The island is mainly made up of rainforest and is surrounded by white sand beaches and tropical coral reefs. The resort features traditional accommodation in bures, plenty of water based activities, a choice of four dining venues and two pool areas, one with a swim up bar and one for families. For kids there is the popular Castaway kids club which offers activities during the day and at night for kids 3 years and older.

Facilities at Castaway Island Fiji include 2 swimming pools, one designated as a quiet area with a Jacuzzi and a swim up bar and the other a family pool with a fountain and waterfall. Free Wi Fi is available at the Lali Bar. There are four dining options, a kids clubs and plenty of water based activities to keep you occupied.

Family Facilities

Castaway Island features the popular Castaway kids club which is free for guests and available for kids aged from 3 years to 12 years. The club is open daily from 9am to 4pm and from 5.30pm till 9pm every night. The club features supervised daily activities with a Fijian flavour. Private babysitting is available (at F$8 per hour). Kids menu and supervised children’s buffet meals are available at the Waters Edge Restaurant nightly from 5.30pm. The resort has cots and highchairs, a children’s wading pool and a family pool.

Activities

Activities on Castaway Island Fiji are nearly all water based with some fantastic experiences awaiting you. Many of these activities are free of charge and include catamaran sailing, coral viewing in a glass bottom boat, kayaks, paddleboards, beach snorkelling, shell market tours and windsurfing. Other water based activities available at a cost are banana boat rides, dolphin safari excursion, hand line fishing, sport fishing, Island hopping excursions, jet skiing, knee boarding, parasailing, snorkelling trips to the inner and outer reefs and night snorkelling, surfing, wake boarding and water skiing. Surfing is a popular activity with a number of good breaks close by on the southern part of the Malolo Barrier Reef in the Mamanuca Islands. Castaway offers daily surfing trips from $F95 and up to $F140 for the bigger breaks like Couldbreak. Scuba diving is also available with introductory diving courses to full certification. There are over 20 dive sites within 20 minutes of Castaway and there are up to three trips each day. There are some land based activities and they include bushwalking, tennis, beach volley ball, table tennis, marine and environment presentations, traditional and cultural activities – Fijian story telling, medicinal plant tour, Kava tasting and wood carving demonstrations. Traditional Fiji massages are also available.

Dining

There are four main dining options at Castaway. The Waters Edge Restaurant is the main restaurant and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner is al la carte modern Fijian and features live music. Supervised kids dinner is also available nightly. On Wednesdays the restaurant features a Fijian Lovo Theme Buffet and Meke show. The Nuku Marau is located at the family pool and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Features a light a la carte breakfast menu and burgers, sandwiches, wraps and sushi as well as a kids a la carte dinner from 5.30pm. The Sundowner Bar has wood fired pizza and a tropical salad bar and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Open from 9am till 9pm it features breakfast pizzas in the morning and gourmet wood fired pizzas at night. Lali Sandbar is a Fijian Asian restaurant open for lunch and dinner. It has an Asian Wok stir fry for lunch from 12 noon to 2 pm and an a la carte Asian menu for dinner from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Castaway Island is in traditional Fijian bures. Island, Ocean and Beach bures all feature a king beds and two single beds. The Island bures are the cheaper option with the Beach bures the most expensive. For families of 5 there is the Castaway 5 Bure which is a standard bure with an extra bed added. All the bures feature newly renovated private bathrooms with a separate shower and toilet. The bures have a sliding privacy screen door that separates the sleeping areas. There are 27 Island Bures, 12 Ocean View and 27 Beach bures. Bures are air conditioned and have ceiling fans and feature quality inclusions. For larger groups there is a three bedroom Family Beach bure which can sleep up to 10 people. It has two king beds and six single beds.

Location

Castaway is located around 30km west of Nadi airport on its own private island. It is accessible by boat, seaplane or helicopter. South Sea Cruises service the island with their fast split deck air-conditioned catamarans. It takes around one and a half hours and there are three trips each day departing from Denarau Island. Pacific Island Seaplanes fly regularly from Nadi Airport to Castaway and flight time is around 10 minutes. Another option is Island Hoppers helicopter ride from Nadi airport which is also around 10 minutes travel time.
