The city centre is located on the Swan River with the skyline a mix of colonial buildings and modern skyscrapers. The shopping precent is a pedestrian only area made up of many arcades and malls. The Perth railway station is located just to the north of the CBD while the Barrack Street jetty lies to the south providing ferry services to Fremantle and South Perth. Close to the CBD are two city gardens, the Stirling Gardens and the Supreme Court gardens
There are plenty of things to see and do around Perth. Northbridge is the centre of the citys nightlife and also has the Perth Cultural Centre which includes the art gallery, museum and the state library. In East Perth is the popular Perth Mint which has guided tours, as well the WACA (Western Australia Cricket Association) oval, home of the states cricket team.
Fremantle, at the mouth of the Swan River is a major boat and fishing centre and has the look and feel of an early century town. The local Fremantle markets are a popular attraction that have been operating since 1897. Other attractions include the Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle Prison and the Shipwreck galleries.
Perths climate is moderate with dry and hot summers and cool and wet winters. Temperatures average from 18 to 31 degrees Celsius in summer and 8 to 18 degrees in winter.
