We stayed at long island resort for 5 days. Overall the resort was good but getting there was a painfull. On the first day we arrived at hamilton island late due to a plane delay which meant we missed the ferry and had to wait about an hour an a half for a ferry to take us to daydream island and then shute habour where we had to wait another hour before finally boarding a ferry to long island. We left melbourne at 8pm and didn't get to the resort until after two and in the process missed a lunch at the resort that we had paid for. Finally at the resort we still had a good time. I would recommend buffet breakfast only. We had a buffet breakfast lunch and dinner but it was repetitive and we ate too much. There is a cafe which had a better selection for lunch and dinner. Saying that though food was excellent. Very friendly staff. Bar staff were excellent. Considering the amount of cocktails they had to make for guests they were very efficient and well worth the wait although a little expensive. Unfortunately we chose the wrong time to travel SCHOOLIES TIME!!!!! one night about 40 of them came to the resort and were loud and very drunk!!!! The other nights were okay though. Overall long island resort was good if you wanted to stay there the whole time but if you wanted to do any tours you had to go on a ferry to shute harbour then day dream then hamilton before you left to go anywhere, very time consuming!!! reef world was great however and well worth the wait and money considering rough seas and people throwing up which was quite funny!! However i still had a great time and i would go back at a different time of year.

We went to LIR as a family of 4. We had a beachfront room. We flew into Hamilton Island and transferred to LIR via Shute Harbour (about 2 hours all up including a lunch break at Shute Harbour).

The resort is comfortable rather than luxurious but is a great spot for a family break. It is quiet with a lovely north facing beach that gets sun nearly all day. If you want a heap of nightlife you probably should head to Hamilton Island but if you are after a quiet break it is terrific. Our 2 daughters met up with friends in Kids Club and had dinner with the Club kids most nights. It is a pity the Kids Club closes at 7.30PM as it meant my wife and I had to have a fairly early dinner.

The rooms could do with an update but are OK. Storage space isn't terrific however. We were upstairs but if I went again I would ask for a downstairs room where you can pull a lounge right up to your verandah door.

The food is a bit repetitive but good. Every night had the option of a roast, pasta and salads. Vegetarians and gluten free are all catered for. Alcohol is reasonably priced but dearer than the pub.

Staff were mostly friendly and keen to please.

If you were looking for a comparable Whitsundays resort it would probably be South Molle Island. Both are family friendly but are also getting on in years and have none of the luxury of the more expensive Daydream or Hayman Islands.

My husband, myself and our 2 children, aged 4 & 8 just returned from a long holiday in queensland. We were booked to stay for 7 nights at club crocodile at long island. It was a nightmare. It was a beachview room, it did have a view, but was so small we barely had any room to walk around in it. It was a package, included all meals, 3 buffet meals a day. Unfortunately what you had for dinner one night, you had for lunch the next day. My husband and my son got violently ill after eating dinner the first night, both where in the room for over 24 hours very sick, we were sure they had food poisoning, they both ate the same thing. They only have 2 pools, one is a lap pool, not suitable for small children, the other was suitable, but both were so cold you couldn't swim in them. They had kids club from 9am till 12 noon, then again at night from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, which would of been good to use at dinnertime, but we never got the chance. We left after 2 nights, would not recommend this place to anyone. Was very disappointed. We have always gone to Hamilton Island, have so for 3 years. Thought we would try another island, what a big mistake on my part. When i enquired about leaving early, they weren't the least bit interested in hearing why, they just wanted us to pay a penalty. They would not even provide me with a form to leave and what we thought about our stay. Hope this helps some one else out if they are thinking of going there.

Just struggling through brochure after brochure on where to go for holidays with 3 children ( 5, 3, 6months) So far success have been: DISNEYLAND PARIS and stayed on site in Disney Hotel for 5 nights. Basically worked for us as just go to park in morning, back for lunch and then back to park for afternoon. They have a pool, creche, HUGE rooms, HUGE bathrooms, fantastic diners where cartoon characters wander about, and very children friendly with cots, highchairs etc. Great night out to "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show" My son (2 and a half at the time) LOVED it!! CLUB CROCODILE LONG ISLAND where I stayed at 6 months pregnant. All meals included, fantastic shallowish beach, watersports, kids club ( about 4 kids went) but still fine for a break, kids videos on at 7pm each night, babysitting available, meals were fantastic and I had a wonderful break from cooking all the time.. Rooms on the small side so HIGHLY RECOMMEND interconnecting rooms and beach front view. Pools were fab too. Extremely relaxing and good value for money. None of that high rise feel as well. And a tip... Fly directly to Hamilton Island to avoid long delays with bus and taxi transfers...ie we arrived Prosepine airport at 1120 and got to room at 3.30..Very hard in the heat and 2 small kids itching to swim and play and have some fun!!
