We had the best holiday a family could have in Penang. We stayed at the Parkroyal in Penang in a Deluxe Family Seaview Room which fitted 2 adults and 2 children. The resort was really geared up for the kids and the adults. The kids club was the main reason we chose this hotel and it lived up to our expectations. The kids club (for kids 3-12) is open from 8am till 11pm every day, it has a resident clown called "KoKo" who entertains the kids, the kids club has a TV, video, it also does structured activities for the kids and has a games room (for a small fee the kids get to play the arcade games) meals can be purchased from the club for about $6 Australian. The older kids get to play water volleyball and other water sports. Once our children found out about the kids club they wanted to go every night which was great for us parents. The staff of the kids club were fantastic too. The resort has 2 large pools, the main pool which was deeper and had the swim up bar the other pool was great for the kids because it was about 3ft deep and all the families seemed to go to this pool which also had a 63ft water slide which the kids just loved. There were plenty of sun lounges for everyone and also shade.
The resort has 2 outside bars and an indoors bar which were all very casual and happy hour started at 4.00pm then continued to the other bars till 6.30pm which was great for the adults especially when drinks were 1/2 priced and you could relax around the pool while the kids played in the water.
The resort offers the normal water activities at a reasonable price. (caterman's were free).
Meals at the resort were a little expensive especially when you could get fantastic meals out of the resort and only a 10 minute walk. On average our meals for 4 adults would be about $50.00 and this included beers!! and being very full.
Shopping was great. They would set up their stalls every night at the back of the hotels and sell t-shirts, watches, cd's and everything imaginable, both parents and kids had a great time shopping and bargaining.
We enjoyed a 1/2 day outing to Monkey Beach with bbq lunch supplied which everyone enjoyed .
Everyone had a fantastic holiday and Penang is a place where you can do lots or you can just sit back and relax. We enjoyed it so much we plan to back again.
The only negative thing about Penang is the time to get there from Australia about 8 hrs). Malaysian Airlines were fantastic especially the screens in front of the seats entertained the kids.
By the way our kids were just over 5 and just over 3 and I would highly recommend Penang for a great family destination.
