My family and I have
just returned from Bali (annual holidays 26th Jan 2004). We stayed at The
Melasti Beach Resort in Legian for 13 nights.
The Resort Rooms:
The Melasti is a family Resort with Standard, Superior and Suite rooms (we stayed in the Suite
Room). The room consist of two rooms and a separate bathroom. The main bedroom
had a Kings size bed, fridge, TV air-conditioned and plenty of wardrobe space.
The sitting room was converted to allow for two rollaway single beds (there was
plenty of space to put them in the main bedroom).
Room Tip:
Pay for Standard with
an Upgrade to Superior or pay for Superior with an upgrade to a Suite (our
travel agent did not tell us this, we paid for the Suite, had we known we could
have saved some money). Take a travel jug with you for those cups of tea or
coffee that we all have each day and of course take your own tea or coffee).
The Pool:
The Melasti has three
pools, a plunge pool, a very good size family pool with kids pool and a third
pool in the new wing. The family pool has a swim up bar. The problem in this
area was with towels (supplied free of charge), there was never enough towels
available for the amount of people that were in the pool areas. Apart from that
minor problem the pools were very clean and maintained.
Breakfast Included:
All guest have breakfast included apart from the kids (your travel agent will try to tell you
that you need to pay an additional fee for them. My advice is don't pay any
extra). All travel brochures state that the breakfast is included for everyone
on the package deal. In fact it appeared that anyone that was passing at
breakfast time could get a meal (no one asked for our breakfast vouchers). The
breakfast is very poor standard to what we had last time at the resort (was
there in 1999). Once again there were problems here with cutlery and crockery
(the staff did not have a clue what they were doing or at least not doing).
Other Meals at the resort:
There are theme nights
on most nights the cost including meal range from 40,000rph to 60,000rph per
head (no kids discount). The al-a-carte menu price are not bad for a resort
however the price outside in the many close by restaurants are about half the
price (6000rph = $1 Aus).
The Melasti is a very good resort for families and good value.
Cost Legian to Kuta etc:
The average price for
a Taxi to Kuta was about 10,000rph ($1.50), to Sanur 30,000rph ($5) and to Nusa
Dua 50,000rph (just under $10)
Sunglasses 15,000rph,
Bali Tee Shirts 20,000rph, DVDs 15,000rph (and yes they do work).
